A Retailer asked for a dashboard with sales and profits insights, along with its top and bottom products so they can be targeted or removed from marketing campaigns.
Note: We take client's privacy very seriously, hence, the report is not the actual one that was submitted to the client (though the pages sections and titles are the same), we have changed the Dates, Products names, costs and sales amounts and kept the sections and pages.
What we did:
Client provided data for every product and earlier periods and from there we plotted the following:
Page 1: Sales Insights:
All Sales with costs, profits by Year and Month, along with Top and Bottom 5 products by Sales and profits, Top and Bottom dynamically changes when the period changes too.
Page 2: Sales & Demand Scenarios :
This is a very useful tool for the business as it tests the business responsiveness to changes in Sales and/or Demand. We divided the products into 3 categories by sales, "Top Products" "OK products" and "Poor Products", then we built Sales and Demand scenarios around it plotting the Scenario vs Current profits.
Scenarios are for Demand and/or Sales change in case or a marketing campaign for instance, or a sudden change in market conditions that could affect the sales or demand. The scenarios are not limited to Products Groups and can be applied/tested for individual product/s.
Page 3: Discount Scenario:
Another helpful part, this one is to plot what impact on profits will be when a discount is applied to a Products Group or specific product, as in the Sales & Demand Scenarios, the Scenario vs Current state profits are plotted
Page 4: Sales Predictions (Forecasts):
This one was not done directly with Power BI, rather we used different types of Predictive Analytics and Forecasting methodology in different programming to forecast future sales based on historical ones.
We have demonstrated forecasted sales for the next 4 months (Quarter) .
Some note have to be mentioned here that forecasts are indicators of future sales based on historical ones and not to be relied on 100%, but they are very useful part of the supply chain as they help the business plan better its products orders and try to reduce salvage or unsold products.
